Hey music lovers! At Tech Hifi and Strawberries Records, we’re obsessed with vinyl—and we know you are too. Ever wondered how that iconic sound gets pressed into a record? Let’s dive into the fascinating process of vinyl creation!

Step 1: The Master Recording

It all starts with the music! Studios finalize the audio, and engineers create a master recording. For vinyl, this is specially optimized to preserve the warm, rich analog sound we adore.

Step 2: Cutting the Lacquer

A lacquer disc (a smooth aluminum plate coated in nitrocellulose) is placed on a cutting lathe. A needle etches the audio waves into the lacquer, creating a physical “map” of the music. This fragile disc becomes the original blueprint.

Step 3: Electroplating – Making the Stampers

The lacquer is electroplated with nickel to create a metal “stamper.” This stamper is a negative imprint of the grooves and will be used to press thousands of records!

Step 4: Pressing the Vinyl

PVC pellets (vinyl material) are melted into a “biscuit.”• The biscuit is sandwiched between two stampers (one for each side) in a hydraulic press.• Heated to 300°F+ and pressed under tons of pressure—voilà, the grooves are born!

Step 5: Quality Control & Trimming

Each record is inspected for flaws, trimmed of excess vinyl, and tested for sound quality. Only the best make the cut!

Step 6: Sleeving & Packaging

The vinyl is nestled into its iconic jacket (often with artwork, lyrics, or liner notes) and sealed—ready for your turntable!

Fun Facts to Drop at Your Next Listening Party 🎉

1,500 lbs of pressure shapes each record!• A single vinyl takes 30+ minutes to press.• The average LP has 1,500 feet of grooves (that’s 5 football fields!).• The term “LP” (Long Play) was coined by Columbia Records in 1948!

Why Vinyl?

It’s not just sound—it’s artistry. The tactile experience, the crackle, the ritual of dropping the needle… vinyl connects you to music in a way digital can’t replicate.
